To help you with this, I have put together a list of the best tips to help you with your wedding photography.

1. Remember to SMILE:
This goes without saying, but you would be surprised how many people forget to smile. After all, this will be one of the happiest times in your life. It’s totally normal to feel nervous and/or anxious. I encourage you to enjoy the moment because, time goes by so fast. If you forget don’t worry, I will remind you!

2. Communicate with your photographer:
If you have special requests on types of photos you want, share those ideas with your photographer. Create your top five list of must-have photos, and allow your photographer to include some ideas as well. I create a unique photo list for my couples, that includes combinations of family and group photo ideas. This list helps us keep track of all the important photos you want. However, not every detail has to be outline because your photographer will be capturing things as they happen also.

3. Have a day-of timeline:
One of the most important things to have, is a rock-solid timeline. This helps ensure you and your photographer are on the same page. Your wedding coordinator may be putting a timeline together for you as well. Share this with your photographer to ensure enough time is scheduled to complete photos. I provide a day-of wedding photography timeline for all my couples, outlining the important details and recommended times to take photos.

4. Here is a list of photo ideas, I like to capture:
• Getting ready photos of the couple; bride getting into her dress, groom buttoning up jacket, etc.
• Photos of the venue and candid shots of friends and family before the ceremony
• Detail/close-up photos of the rings, flowers, decor, shoes, dress, suit, cuff links, tie, and any other important items.
• A first look - Haven’t heard of a first look? A first look is a private moment between the couple before the ceremony, when I capture the couple’s reaction to seeing each other for the first time. It’s a great opportunity to get in a few more photos of the couple together. This is optional, you may skip the first look if you want to wait to see each at the ceremony, for the first time.
• The ceremony from start to finish
• Ring exchange, vow exchange, and unity ceremony (if applicable)
• The couple’s first kiss, announcement, and exiting the ceremony
• Traditional family, and wedding party photos (plus, a few fun ones!)
• Romantic photos of the couple together
• The couple entering the reception with formal announcement
• Photos of the decor, and set up of the reception hall
• Candid photos of your guest having fun and enjoying themselves
• The cake(s) and fun photos of you feeding each other
• Toasts and speeches
• First dance, group dancing, bouquet toss, garter toss
• Gorgeous sunset photo of the couple (weather permitting)
• Couple’s final exit / send-off from the venue
• The couple waving goodbye from a get-away vehicle

These are a few ideas to get started. I love to collaborate with my couples on different ideas for photos. I’m sure you will have a few ideas of your own and would love to hear more about what you have planned. What is your vision for your wedding day?

5. Order an album and some works of art for your home:
You would be surprised how many couples received their photos, then do nothing with them! Hours of hard work and energy are put into crafting your big day. I encourage you to pick a few of your favorite photos, have them printed and framed for your home. I have my own personal wedding photos displayed in my home, and seeing them around our house brings me joy. Not only do I take beautiful photos, I also design custom wedding albums. In Conclusion:
The most important things to look for in a wedding photographer is: the ability to listen, be flexible to your needs, and be adaptable in any situation (while taking amazing photos, of course!). With a rock-solid timeline, good communication and a great relationship with your photographer - your wedding will run smoothly so you can relax and enjoy yourself!

Summer & Brad's Backyard Wedding

Wedding Photography | Photos by Martina

Welcome to Summer & Brad’s backyard wedding! Their story began about two and a half years ago when they meet in Georgia. They decide to go out on a date and they hit it off right away. Not only did Summer become Brad’s new wife, she became a mom to Brad’s two children. Their daughter was the flower girl and their son was a ring bearer.

They had a beautiful wedding at Summer’s grandmother’s house, located in south Austin. They had friends, family and neighbors witness their union together. The ceremony was beautiful and Summer looked amazing in her dress! I loved her bouquet, it had so many unique types of flowers and succulents. They also had a live, country musician playing guitar and singing in their backyard. It was one of my favorite parts of their wedding. And of course, no Texas wedding would be complete without Rudy’s BBQ for lunch, along with coconut and red velvet cake for dessert. It was a memorable day they will never forget. Here are some of my favorites!

A Wedding Story: Melissa & Arcadio

Brodie Homestead in Austin, Texas

Wedding photography from Melissa & Arcadio's wedding on March 23rd. These two have amazing chemistry together! Their story began when Arcadio moved to Texas from Venezuela and met Melissa online. Arcadio asked her out on a date and they hit it off right away. After dating for about a year, he asked her to marry him and she said YES!

Melissa & Arcadio had a beautiful wedding at the Brodie Homestead in Austin. The venue is a restored, rustic barn with a modern elegance to it. My favorite part of the venue is the architecture, high-ceilings and large chandeliers. It had a warm ambiance about it. The food was so delicious too! They had barbecued ribs, tender brisket and all the fixings from Pokey Jo's. It was some of the best food I've had :) They had such a beautiful and romantic wedding. I'm so happy I had the pleasure of capturing these special moments. Here are some of my favorites!

A Wedding Story: Darlene & Fernando

Austin wedding photography at the Dunvegan Keep

Photos from Fernando & Darlene's beautiful fairy-tale wedding, at the Dunvegan Keep in Austin, Texas. The Dunvegan Keep is an old-world estate, with a beautiful garden and romantic charm. There are so many spots to take photos, with little surprises around every corner. It was raining, but that didn't stop us from creating some amazing works of art!

I documented how theses two met and shared more about their engagement story, last month. Their wedding was so sweet and they even included their pups into the ceremony. Nova (the little one) had an important job, she was their ring-bearer! Following their union, they had dinner and shared stories, toasted and gave thanks, and then danced the night away. Congratulations to the newly weds! Everyone had so much fun and I captured some memorable moments from the night. Thank you so much for the opportunity, I hope you enjoy them :)

A Wedding Story: Joey & Michelle

Wedding photography at The Allan House in Austin

Sneak peeks from Michelle & Joey's wedding on Thursday, Jan 5th at the Allan House in Austin, Texas. Joey is from Norway and Michelle is from Round Rock, Texas. They meet each other while attending a Christian University in Australia. Soon they realized God had brought them together for a reason. After dating for a little over 6 months, they got engaged! They are one of the sweetest couples I've met, and they make a perfect match together.

Their wedding was absolutely stunning! Both Michelle and Joey's families meet each other for the first time. Joey's family traveled to Austin from Norway. Michelle, Joey and their friends came up from Australia. Their guests enjoyed a Tex-Mex dinner, played games, sang songs, and shared some incredible stories about Michelle and Joey. Michelle looked absolutely gorgeous in her dress, and the delicious cake was made by Coco Paloma Desserts. It was so wonderful to be part of their special day!

A Wedding Story: Brenda & Chris

Brenda and Chris’s story started with an encounter, at a bar in 2008. Chris saw Brenda and thought she was so pretty. He ambitiously decided to go talk to her and try to charm her with some of his Spanish. ;) Brenda thought he was cute, and a relationship quickly developed. Things between them got more serious, when they decided to move in together. They got engaged two years ago, when they found out Brenda was pregnant with their baby girl! He proposed to her at a beautiful spot by the water, while on a walk together.

These two decided to tie the knot with an adorable backyard wedding, here in Austin. They invited all their friends and family to share this special day with them. We took photos at a park, so the couple could have a first look some time together before they exchanged vows. The look on Chris’s face when he saw Brenda in her dress for the first time, was priceless. You can see how much they really love each other! They even had their adorable 2 year old daughter, Ava participate in their union together. The ceremony was beautiful and romantic! They decided to write their own vows, and it was featured in both Spanish and English. I can’t say enough about how warm, sweet and generous these two are! They are great people and they deserve all the happiness in the world. I am so happy I had the chance to capture these moments! Brenda & Chris, thank you so much for sharing your special day with me! Here are some of my favorites. :)
